Newground Together’s community work prioritises 3 key themes:

  • To support people into employment or to enhance their position in work
  • To create opportunities for people to thrive in their communities
  • To engage people in the natural environment

Newground CIC is the wholly owned subsidiary of the charity Newground Together and is a member of the Together Housing Group, a leading provider of quality affordable and modern homes for rent across the North of England.

The Flood Team at Newground has delivered flood programmes for over 15 years, and following the December 2015 floods, they have delivered the North West Regional Flood and Coastal Committee (RFCC) community flood resilience programme. The Newground Flood Team work alongside the Environment Agency and other Risk Management Authorities to support individual, businesses and communities at risk of flooding.

They support individuals, businesses and communities to plan ahead for flooding, develop flood action groups, produce flood plans and gain knowledge, so they can be better prepared and more resilient to the effects of flooding.

Direct engagement work within communities has allowed Newground to develop a vast array of resources that are held in the Knowledge Hub section of The Flood Hub. These resources are developed as a direct response to address any confusion and questions asked when carrying out engagement work.

Individual support

Through direct engagement, public events and community meetings, we work with individuals to increase their general flood resilience, access funding and improve awareness of available products and services.

Business support

We provide assistance to business owners so that they can become fully aware of their flood risk and the steps they can take to improve their flood resilience. We offer practical support to develop flood plans which outline the steps to take before, during and after a flood to allow for business continuity.

Community support

The Newground Flood Team offers direct support, advice and guidance to residents wanting to ensure that their community is more resilient and better prepared for flood events. They work closely with risk management authorities and can help residents to organise and form community flood groups, identify and achieve their aims and objectives, develop bespoke community flood plans and deliver community-led flood resilience activities and schemes. All flood group support is tailored to the specific needs of the community and the area in which they operate.
